Since the conclusion of NCIS: Los Angeles in May, Eric Christian Olsen and his wife Sarah Wright Olsen have focused on spending more quality time with each other and their three children.

The couple, who have been married for 11 years, share three children: Wyatt, nine, Esme, six, and Winter, who recently turned three. Sarah, 39, took to Instagram to share a heartwarming photo of her 46-year-old husband cradling their youngest daughter in his arms in celebration of Winter’s special day.

In her caption, the actress recounted their emotional journey to becoming parents for the third time, emphasizing the challenges of her pregnancy and their strong desire for a third child.

“This is number 3,” she wrote. “I told her tonight that she was magical, and she replied, ‘I know I have my powers.’ She’s our rainbow child.”

“We thought about her, prayed for her, dreamed of her for so long,” Sarah continued. “We wrote names on a small chalkboard and voted on them… We couldn’t wait for her arrival. It’s a pregnancy and birth I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I can still feel everything in my body. She arrived 11 days after her due date, and by evening, we were at home with her in our bed. Since then, her magical abilities have been enchanting. Winter Story, happy birthday.”

Their family friend Nikki Reed, who recently welcomed her second child with Ian Somerhalder, also extended her birthday wishes to little Winter. She wrote, “Happy birthday to my little fairy angel who gives the best hugs. We adore you, Wintieee! So much [love], and happy birthday, mama!!”

Eric’s birthday comes just a few months after he made his final appearance as Marty Deeks on NCIS: LA, which concluded in May. He had been a part of the cast since the show’s debut in 2009, and its cancellation marked the second spin-off of the NCIS multiverse to come to an end after NCIS: New Orleans. However, a new spin-off, NCIS: Sydney, is set to premiere in November.

Winter made a recent appearance in her father’s post detailing the family’s experience with COVID-19 this July, but Eric isn’t known for frequent social media posts, with Sarah being the more active one. He shared a photo of himself performing a yoga stretch with his daughter sitting on his back, captioning it with a humorous reference to their bout with COVID-19 and its effects on the family.
