CBS has just announced the renewal of NCIS for its 22nd season. This decision arrives amidst the show’s 21st season, which, due to last year’s writers strike, is its shortest yet at only 10 episodes.

Debuting in 2003, NCIS stands as one of CBS’ most enduringly successful series, currently holding the title of the network’s longest-running drama. With two spin-offs already on the air, ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ and ‘NCIS: Sydney,’ and another, ‘NCIS: Origins,’ set to premiere next season, the franchise continues to expand its reach.

Originally stemming from characters introduced in a two-part episode of the CBS series ‘JAG,’ NCIS was initially known as ‘Navy NCIS’ during its inaugural season. Centered around the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the show delves into high-pressure scenarios, navigating both intricate cases and the often humorous interpersonal dynamics within the team.
