NCIS is set for major shakeups heading into Season 22, with the team members being pulled in different directions, facing both physical dangers and emotional challenges. One of the biggest changes is the departure of Jessica Knight (played by Katrina Law), who leaves the DC-based team after struggling in both her personal and professional life. Jessica has accepted a position across the country, leaving behind her ex, Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), and the rest of the team to cope with the fallout.
Executive producer Steven D. Binder, in an interview with TV Insider, shared more insights into how Knightâs exit will affect the other characters, especially Palmer. Though sheâs no longer part of the team, Knightâs presence will continue to resonate in the new season, particularly in her interactions with Palmer. Binder teased that viewers will get to see the second part of the conversation between Jimmy and Jessica that wasnât shown in the finale. He hinted at a significant follow-up in Episode 4, saying:
“Jimmy and Knight are going to have a Part 3 of that conversation, exploring who they are, what they might be, and what they wonât be. It will happen in the middle of a high-stakes, almost real-time episode where the team is trying to stop something small from turning into something huge. The stakes are enormous, both professionally and personally.”
While Palmer is most directly impacted by Knightâs departure due to their past romance, heâs not the only one feeling the strain. Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) is considering a new career path, eyeing a deputy director position. According to Binder, this storyline will be addressed early in the season, with McGeeâs decision regarding the open position revealed in the premiere episode.
Meanwhile, Wilmer Valderramaâs character, Nick Torres, is also struggling with Knightâs absence. Known for his difficulty in handling personal losses, Torres will dive back into undercover work, putting him in a precarious situation with dangerous individuals. Binder explained that Torresâ focus on his work will keep him from forming meaningful relationships, leaving him with little emotional fallout from losing someone close.
In other exciting news, a new photo has surfaced featuring NCIS alums Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo on the set of their upcoming series NCIS: Tony & Ziva, much to the delight of long-time fans.
As the new season unfolds, the NCIS team will face both professional challenges and personal crossroads, promising intense drama and high stakes.
